How We Review Forex Brokers

At ForexArc, we review forex and CFD brokers by looking at their regulation, trading costs, platforms, account types, and deposit and withdrawal policies.

Our research draws on official broker information, regulatory disclosures, relevant independent sources and clearly identified firsthand experience.

We aim to explain what each broker offers, where it falls short, and what traders should check before opening an account.

Our Broker Review Process

We focus on six main areas when evaluating a forex broker.

1. Regulation and Client Protection

We start by identifying the legal company behind the broker.

A broker may operate through several regulated companies, but their licences and customer protections can differ.

We review regulatory disclosures, licence information, client-money arrangements, and restrictions that may apply to different countries.

Where possible, we cross-check this information against official regulatory records.

Why this matters: A broker’s list of international licences doesn’t necessarily tell you which protections apply to your account.

2. Trading Fees and Spreads

We compare trading costs beyond the lowest advertised spread.

Our research covers:

  • Advertised spreads and available average spreads.
  • Commissions charged when opening and closing trades.
  • Overnight financing and other trading fees.
  • Deposit, withdrawal, and currency conversion charges.

For example, a broker may advertise spreads from 0.0 pips but charge a separate commission per trade.

When we provide an illustrative trading-cost calculation, we label it clearly. We don’t present advertised spreads as measured trading costs.

Why this matters: The broker advertising the lowest spread isn’t always the cheapest to trade with.

3. Trading Platforms and Tools

We examine the platforms available through each broker, including MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, TradingView, and proprietary trading applications.

We look at supported account types, charting features, automated trading functionality, and mobile access.

We describe platform features using official documentation and relevant sources. Published features do not establish how a platform will perform in a particular trader’s account.

Why this matters: A broker may offer attractive trading conditions but not support the platform you prefer.

4. Account Types and Minimum Deposits

We compare Standard, RAW, ECN, and other eligible trading accounts.

We examine minimum funding requirements, commissions, spreads, supported platforms, and relevant account conditions.

We also distinguish between a required minimum deposit and a recommended starting balance.

Why this matters: Two accounts from the same broker may have different trading costs, eligibility requirements, and features.

5. Deposits and Withdrawals

We look at available funding methods, withdrawal conditions, processing times, and potential fees.

Our funding coverage examines each broker’s published payment methods, verification requirements and withdrawal conditions.

Published payment estimates are attributed to the broker. Any claim about a personal transaction must be supported by records before publication.

We also distinguish between the time a broker takes to process a withdrawal and the time a bank or payment provider takes to deliver the funds.

Why this matters: A withdrawal processed within 24 hours may still take several business days to reach your account.

6. Trading Conditions and Broker Limitations

We review published trading conditions and explain limitations that could affect how readers use an account.

This can cover account access, trading platforms, order placement, and managing deposits and withdrawals.

We also identify limitations, unclear conditions, and differences between promotional claims and published account information.

An individual trading experience doesn’t prove a broker consistently offers faster execution or lower spreads.

We only publish measurable performance comparisons when sufficient evidence is available.

How We Verify Broker Information

We use several sources when researching a broker.

Official broker documentation: Trading account specifications, pricing schedules, platform information, legal documents, and payment policies.

Regulatory sources: Official regulator websites, licence records, and regulatory warnings where available.

Firsthand experience: We may include relevant account or platform observations when they are clearly identified. We distinguish personal observations from independently verified pricing, execution statistics and withdrawal performance. Claims about a specific transaction or measurable result require suitable supporting evidence.

Independent research: External broker research and other relevant sources that provide additional context.

When sources disagree, we explain the difference or identify what remains unverified.

We don’t automatically treat promotional statements as independently established facts.

How ForexArc Ratings Work

ForexArc uses its own editorial ratings on a five-point scale.

We consider the following areas when assigning an editorial rating:

  • Regulation and client protection.
  • Trading fees and spreads.
  • Trading platforms.
  • Account types and funding conditions.
  • The quality of available evidence, including clearly identified firsthand experience.

Ratings are editorial assessments, not mathematical averages or customer-review scores. We consider the available evidence together and explain important strengths and limitations in each review. We do not calculate ratings from Trustpilot scores.

Ratings are shown only when explicitly approved for publication. They may change when new information materially affects our assessment.

A higher rating doesn’t guarantee that a broker is safer, cheaper, or more suitable for every trader.

Ratings should be considered alongside the specific legal entity, account conditions, trading costs, and your own requirements.

How We Compare Forex Brokers

When comparing two brokers, we examine the same core areas and identify the specific accounts being compared.

For example, IC Markets Global and Vantage Markets both advertise RAW spreads starting from 0.0 pips.

However, their commissions, trading platforms, and funding requirements differ.

We compare these differences without assuming the broker with the lowest advertised commission has the lowest overall trading cost.

Our comparisons explain which broker may suit different requirements rather than declaring one option best for everyone.

You can see this approach in our IC Markets vs Vantage Markets comparison and in our IC Markets review.

How We Keep Our Reviews Updated

Broker information can change, including account requirements, fees, trading platforms, and regulatory arrangements.

We record verification dates in our research and revisit relevant information when preparing or updating articles.

When we identify an important change, we aim to update the affected content.

Our publication and update dates should reflect genuine editorial changes, not automatic adjustments intended to make older articles appear recent.

How Affiliate Partnerships Affect Our Reviews

ForexArc may earn a commission when readers register with certain brokers through links on our website.

These partnerships help support our work.

We aim to keep commercial relationships separate from our editorial assessments.

Our reviews explain both strengths and limitations, and we don’t change factual information to make a broker appear more attractive.

Affiliate payments don’t determine the numerical rating assigned to a broker.

Read our Affiliate Disclosure for more information.

Our Editorial Standards

We want ForexArc to be a useful resource for traders comparing forex and CFD brokers.

Our approach is straightforward:

  • Use reliable sources and explain important qualifications.
  • Distinguish advertised information from firsthand observations.
  • Avoid unsupported claims about trading performance.
  • Identify the legal entity relevant to the account reviewed.
  • Correct material errors when identified.
  • Explain broker strengths and limitations without promising trading results.

We don’t claim that our research covers every broker or every trading condition.
